Test Footage

We have tested the technique of filming from someones point of view to see how achievable this would be and what we would need to do if we decide to continue using it when we produce our short film.

Test 1

We originally wanted to use the prime lens for our short film, because we have used it before and like the look it gives the film. When we tested it however we found that the lens made the shot look as though it was closer to the camera than it actually was. As we couldn’t use this to zoom out we had to decide against using this lens because with almost all of our film being from the person’s point of view the distance people and objects are away from the camera is a key factor.

Test 2

For our second test we used the 18-55mm lens. This worked better as the distancing from the camera looked better however it was difficult to keep the camera steady, as we aren’t using a tripod. The shot would have looked better if we had kept the camera steadier, which we can practice before we shoot our film.

Test 3

We used the same footage as in Test 2 however this time we added the warp stabiliser to see if that would help steady the shot. In general this worked better because it steadied the overall look however because of how much the camera moved as it went down the stairs it looks slightly weird. We have however decided that when we shoot our film if we practice filming steadier we can then add the warp stabiliser and it should look better.

Test 4

In this we tested the person opening the door whilst holding the camera and someone else opening the door as though it was the person behind the camera. Originally when the person holding the camera opened the door it didn’t work out as well because they were too close to the door to see the whole shot clearly and the camera was difficult to hold being in one hand, which meant it was quite shaky.

Test 4

The second time we tried with someone else opening the door but so it looked like it was the person behind the camera. This worked better as one person could open the door while the camera walks through, maintaining its smoothness and stability.

Test 5

For this test we wanted to see how moving the camera so it looks like the person is moving their head to the side would work. This turned out well as we could give the impression of the person looking to the side to the person next to them whilst keeping the shot smooth and steady.
